Topic: While alcohol is legal and widely used in our
culture, many people will find that it creates problems in their life or
in the life of someone they love. Understanding the effects of
alcohol use and abuse is the key to making good decisions about drinking.
Alcohol abuse and alcoholism are not just "adult problems." Youth
also face issues and challenges regarding alcohol. Educating people
of all ages about the impacts of drinking is the first step in preventing
future problems or recovering from alcohol abuse or alcoholism.
Library Subject Headings. Understanding the difference between
keyword and subject heading searches is important. Keywords
represent text that appears in a document.
Subject headings are assigned by an information specialists to help
researchers identify resources that cover similar topics. A powerful
tool, subject headings create connections between sources and allow a user
to benefit from someone else's work classifying information.
Computerize library catalogs, can be searched with keywords, just like
most Internet search engines. Many useful resources, however,
do not share keywords -- this means they will not be located by keyword
searches.
Subject headings, however, identify documents that contain information
about similar topics even when those documents do not share keywords.
Here is a listing of common subject headings (Sears), typically used in
public and school libraries.

Decimal Numbers
Dewey numbers divide humanity's knowledge, ideas, and artistic
creations into ten major categories spanning a range from 000 to 999.
Each sub-category is further divided into nine specialized topics
ranging from 1 to 9. By adding decimals, the specialized topics are
broken down even further.
The Dewey Decimal System determines where books are placed on a
library's shelves. The idea is to try and keep related books
together so that you can "browse" the shelves by looking at similar books.
Here are the Dewey Decimal numbers that relate to topics about alcohol:
