June - July, 2008
Young at Heart and Loving It
Ranging from 55 to 83 years, the 2008 Anna Mae
Mitchell Senior Idol contestants sang, danced, played the piano,
guitar and harmonica, AND Rapped their way through auditions.
Performing gospel music to the tunes of Elvis Presley and Nat King
Cole, these young at heart seniors thrilled and surprised the Senior
Idol committee members with their contagious enthusiasm and pure joy!
The contestants accompanied themselves with their
instruments, used CD backgrounds, sang accappella and even made it a
family affair, as was the case for Earlie Dunham, who was accompanied
by her son Cory on saxophone. Frances Wright tickled the "electronic
ivory" and sang a melody of oldies and country western, and Mel
Cleveland from Stoughton entertained us with piano, harmonica and
song! Along with Earlie, auditions were filled with the vocal tones of
Mary Henderson, Paul Holtz, Fred Trotter, Richard Scott, Sr. and
Ralphael. Senior Idol committee members met the "Rapping Grandma"
Augusta Williams, and guitarist Sam Hayes, and were thoroughly
entertained by the Raging Grannies!
